    Welcome to ASPO South Africa

    The International Association for the Study of Peak Oil (ASPO International), established in 2001, is the foremost network of scientists, researchers and experts studying all aspects of global oil and gas depletion. The international network has national affiliates in at least 26 countries.

    ASPO International’s three-fold mission is:
    1. To evaluate the world’s endowment and definition of oil and gas;
    2. To study depletion, taking due account of economics, demand, technology and politics;
    3. To raise awareness of the serious consequences of oil and gas decline for humankind.

    ASPO South Africa was established in 2006 as the local chapter of ASPO International, and was constituted as a Section 21 (not-for-profit) company. ASPO-SA conducts research into and creates awareness about the implications of global oil depletion (‘peak oil’) for South Africa. Its membership includes several experts who have extensive experience in the energy field.

    Mission Statement

    Guiding South Africa through peak oil to a sustainable future.

    To be the leading South African organisation that focuses on peak oil and its practical implications.  ASPO-SA seeks to achieve its vision through creating a public policy and grassroots awareness of peak oil in the context of sustainability, through research, advisory services and public communications.
